Death of Former Defence Advisor at New Delhi Mission

Friday, 3rd July 2020

It was with great shock that the staff of the Mission in New Delhi received the news of the death of their former colleague, Brigadier General Victor Twesigye yesterday, 2nd July, 2020.

Brigadier Twesigye has been an indispensible staff of Uganda High Commission in New Delhi, undertaking duties pertaining to his particular mandate as Defence Advisor; and  working with equal dedication on all other duties assigned to him at the Mission. His transfer to the East African Community left a big gap which has not been filled in Delhi up to now. Complications, in part compounded by the outbreak of COVID-19 and the subsequent Uganda and India lockdowns, have combined to frustrate the arrival of his replacement to the duty station. New Delhi had bid farewell to its dedicated Defence Advisor; wishing Victor well in his East African Community assignment. We did not expect to hear the news that he died before embarking on his new duties in the service of Uganda.

The country has lost a noble son who dedicated his entire life and service to her protection and defence.  The spirit of total dedication to the service to his country which Brigadier Twesigye lived by, will be a legacy to inspire many  Ugandan youth for years to come.

New Delhi mission conveys its heartfelt condolences to his dear wife, Margaret, and the children. We pray for her to have strength and courage at this very difficult time when the family is burying its head; after having lost Bruce in January, 2020.
