Leading by Example: Museveni Takes COVID Jab

Wednesday, 14th April 2021

As the world grapples with the resurgent COVID-19 plague which has claimed nearly three million lives globally, Uganda is determined to give the deadly virus no room in her territory.  The determination is epitomised by the President of the country who has led the war against the global COVID-19 terror on many fronts in his country. Thanks to his firm leadership on this matter Uganda has recorded fewer infections in comparison to other countries in the global struggle against this silent killer.

In Uganda President Museveni mounted a relentless public multifaceted media campaign against the virus from the time it became known. So far Uganda has registered 334 deaths from COVID; a loss which would have been far greater had the leadership wavered in the resolve to fight the virus. Amidst hopes that hydroxychloroquine was a cure for the disease, the President led attempts to secure this medicine and its manufacturing formula. Recently, Museveni acquired vaccines from the World Health Organisation and from the Government as well as the Serum Institute of India based in Pune; and urged all front-line workers and school children to get immunized. To allay any fears against the vaccines used in immunization, the President then got himself vaccinated against the deadly virus towards the end of March.
