Monday, 13th September 2021

The President of India Industries Association, a pan-India body of Small and Medium Enterprises, Mr Ashok Kumar Agarwal, invited the New Delhi Head of Mission on a consultative tour of his member organisations in the State of Uttar Pradesh, where the IIA has its headquarters in the capital city of Lucknow. Part of the agenda during this tour consisted of on-the-site visits to some of the firms which make up the IIA 45-member delegation which is due in to visit Uganda.

At this consultative visit, it was agreed that this long overdue visit would take place in late November, with delegates spending at least seven days of business engagements and consultations with key actors in the key investment areas of Uganda; as well as in various regions of the country. Integral to the visit will be tour visits to Ugandan parks and other areas of beauty and relaxation.

During her visit to one of the States from which the IIA draws its membership of over 8,000 micro, small and medium enterprises, the HOM made a presentation on investment opportunities in Uganda. The one-hour session with 45 executive members of the Association was a brainchild of the President of IIA and focused on the theme "India-Uganda Trade Connect"; which the envoy used as an entry point to expose all the possible areas of the Uganda-India economic collaboration partnership.  She then toured several industries at the Talkatora Industrial Estate in Lucknow, including engineering firms making machines for industrial production in the areas of the meat industry featuring mechanised slaughter lines and meat processing plants, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, agro-processing,  solar panel battery-making industries, etc. She travelled north-west of Lucknow to Shahjanpur where she visited a plywood industry, a specialised top-notch medical appliances research and production industry as well as an agricultural mechanization parts industry. Accompanying the High Commissioner throughout this tour was the Secretary for Commercial Diplomacy, Ms Sophie Birungi; who is directly charged with the responsibility of realising the long-COVID-delayed important SME visit to Uganda.
